I'm your accounting buddy...

When I started my journey with budgeting, it was 1998 and I was begging my dad to use a budget in his jewelry business. I didn't really know what it was then, but I knew it would help him.

Since then, I've dedicated my career to learning the best techniques to make budgeting easy and reliable.

Want to learn my method? Sign up for my workshop to create your budget as I guide you along. This includes a forecast for future sales goals, spending caps, and savings requirements.

You'll leave with a plan and with the method to rely on again and again.

My goal in life is to help jewelers not experience the same cash-flow stress I witnessed with my dad.

I'M READY NOW!

I’ve had clients who are CPAs and those with Finance degrees who have told me they didn’t understand aspects of their business (relation of Inventory to COGS or why Net Income isn’t cash in the bank) until I went over it with them. It's my pride and joy to help you understand your business.

If you feel scattered, then this is your ticket to clarity and control over your numbers.

What's required?

An open mind and willingness to release other methods you've tried, but have failed you. Your own numbers will help, but I'll provide dummy data so you can learn what to do when you're ready.

What's not required?

You don't need to be a math expert. You don't need to have a lot of history - you could even be starting a new business. You don't need expensive apps or tools.

FAQ

  • What do I need to bring? Bring your numbers and an open mind! If you have a Profit & Loss Report (aka Income Statement showing your Revenue and Expenses) and a Balance Sheet, please bring them.
  • What if I don't have a Profit & Loss report and Balance Sheet? While it's preferred to use your data, I will provide a download of dummy data with our Chart of Accounts, so that you have it to create your records correctly -when you’re ready.
  • What if I have my own data, but it's not up to date or not in the accounting reports mentioned? Well, now is your head-start to get it caught up, but if that's not reasonable, then just bring an export of your bank transactions organized by income and expenses.
  • Do I need to be good at math? No. We have calculators. I'll teach you my favorite formulas and where and when to use them. I'm more concerned that you can see patterns. If so, this helps!
  • Do I need to be good in Excel? No. I like Excel, but this is not an excel class and you can use Google Sheets or paper and a marker. Youe call!
  • Will I need to buy an app? No. I'll share some resources for my tried and true, but we will not be using one and you do not have to use one.
  • I have debt. It's not fun to budget if I don't have any money, right? False. I'll show you how to pay off your debt and build up savings at the same time to avoid it in the future.
  • I have a healthy amount of cash in my operations and savings accounts and I'm even invested in properties and the market. I never spend outside of my means. Why would I need a budget? A budget is for everyone regardless of income. It doesn't matter how much you make. It matters what you do with what you make. My goal is to make sure you're directing your money where you need and want it to go and it's working as hard for you as you have for it.

After 11 years operating Accounting for Jewelers, and over 30 years in bookkeeping, this is the #1 best thing I think all business owners should be doing at least once per year.

By a jeweler, for jewelers.

I'm the daughter of a jeweler that sold wholesale throughout the Caribbean and to SeaWorld and Disney World, and had up to 7 boutique jewelry stores at one time along the Gulf Coast of Northwest Florida. I was a Revere certified bench jeweler, GIA Graduate Gemologist, and German-trained gemstone carver before earning my accounting degree in 2008 from Belmont University in Nashville, TN.

What people say...

"Learning to budget gave me a much better understanding of my business and finances, and I am very happy to finally have a grasp of where I stand at any given time. I’ve already recommended the service to friends!"

- Kathryn Riechert Jewelry

(Savannah, GA)

"As my business was growing, my understanding of where my money was going was too much to handle with a spreadsheet and logging into my bank account. Mariel set me up with YNAB and helped me learn more about budgeting, having a grasp of what expenses were coming up and being able to forecast where I had leeway to buy new equipment or make a new hire. Mariel is patient and a wealth of knowledge."

- Christina Kober Designs

(Atlanta, GA)

"With Mariel’s guidance we were able to quickly learn YNAB, customize it for our business, incorporate it into our daily activities. With that process in place, we were able to show upper management where we were over spending, how to create reliable budgeting and start saving!"

- Barbara Bisoni (New York, NY)
